Achievements

Achievements of the IEEE Systems, Man and Cybernetics Society Chapter of the IEEE, United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland Section.

The chapter has organised eight successful annual workshop/conferences - starting with the 2008 conference, their papers are on IEEEXPlore.

A number of the papers from the Workshop in 2003, held at the University of Reading, were expanded and published in a special edition of Kybernetes (Vol 34 Number 9/10, 2005).

One paper, "Second-order cybernetics and enactive perception", by J.M.Bishop (Goldsmiths) and S.J.Nasuto (Reading), has been won the Norbert Wiener Award for the best paper in Kybernetes in 2005. Another paper from the edition, "Optimisation enhancement using self-organising fuzzy control" by Ann Tighe, Finlay S. Smith and Gerard Lyons, was highly commended.

In 2009, we hosted a Distinguished Lecture : entitled Control of System of Systems, given by Prof Mo Jamshidi, The University of Texas. This was given at the Universities of Birmingham, Reading, Cardiff, Ulster and East London. Please click here for details on the Lecture

In 2014/15, papers from our conferences were expanded upon for inclusion in two special editions of the International Journal of Applied Pattern Recognition.
